The History and Evolution of Films
The Glow-Up of Film: From Silent Reels to Netflix Feels
Okay, let’s be real movies have had one insane glow-up. What started as silent black-and-white clips has turned into high-def, CGI-filled blockbusters that we can stream anytime, anywhere.
The OG Era
Way back in the 1890s, the Lumière brothers filmed random stuff like people leaving a factory and a train pulling into a station and audiences lost their minds. Like, people actually thought the train was coming straight at them. Early cinema was wild.
Silent but Legendary
Before movies had sound, it was all about expression and creativity. Enter Charlie Chaplin, the king of silent comedy, doing his thing in The Kid and Modern Times. No dialogue, no fancy effects just pure storytelling and emotion. Props to that level of talent. And not just me we all still know this silent king Charlie till this day and now there and many cartoons related him .
When Movies Learned to Talk (and Got a Makeover)
Then came The Jazz Singer in 1927 boom, sound was officially a thing. Suddenly, characters could speak. A few years later, colour arrived, and movies like The Wizard of Oz made people go, “Wait, films can look like that?” The Golden Age of Hollywood was full of icons Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean real stars, not just faces on a poster.
The Blockbuster Era
Jump to the 70s and 80s Spielberg drops Jaws, George Lucas gives us Star Wars, and everyone’s obsessed. By the 90s, tech takes over. CGI becomes the new flex with Jurassic Park, Toy Story, and The Matrix. Movies went from “cool” to “how did they even make that?!” like come on I still think how the dinosaurs were alive.
The Streaming Takeover
Now, we’re in the era of movie freedom. No need for theatres just hit play on Netflix, Disney+, or whatever you’re subscribed to. We’ve got everything from Marvel madness that took over the world like a pandemic to deep indie films like Lady Bird and Everything Everywhere All At Once.
And honestly? Even TikToks tell better stories than some movies now.
Cinema keeps evolving, but the goal’s the same to make us feel something. From Chaplin’s silent jokes to CGI superheroes, film will always be our favourite way to escape reality for a bit.
