Reflecting on My Media Projects: Lessons Learned and Skills Developed
1. Introduction
Creating this blog has been a journey of learning, experimenting, and improving my media skills. I wanted to showcase my work while reflecting on my process, and I’ve learned a lot along the way.
2. Understanding My Audience
From the start, I aimed my projects at teenagers and young adults, aged 15–25. This shaped my choice of suspenseful and psychological horror themes, since I belong to it and I knew this age group enjoys tension and unexpected twists.
3. Choosing the Right Genre
I experimented with horror and suspense because it challenges me to create tension visually and through sound. This genre pushed me to focus on lighting, pacing, and audio design to engage viewers effectively.
4. Planning My Projects
Before filming, I spent time writing scripts and creating storyboards. Planning helped me visualize scenes, props, and camera angles, which made filming more efficient and precise.
5. Filming Challenges
Shooting scenes wasn’t always smooth. I had to adjust lighting multiple times and deal with background noise that interfered with audio. These challenges taught me patience and problem-solving on set.
6. Editing Techniques
I learned how to use software tools to enhance my projects:
Color grading: Used to set mood and atmosphere.
Transitions: Chose cuts that maintained suspense.
Audio editing: Added subtle sound effects to increase tension.
7. Typography and Visual Style
Adding text for titles and credits taught me how typography can affect mood. I experimented with font sizes, colors, and placement to make text readable without distracting from the scene.
8. Reflecting on Successes
I am proud of how my projects turned out visually and audibly. The pacing and suspense moments often worked as intended, and the audience feedback I received was positive.
9. Areas to Improve
Looking back, I realize I could:
Add more close-up shots for emotional impact.
Include behind-the-scenes visuals in my blog to better explain my workflow.
Write more detailed reflections for each project post.
10. Audience Engagement
I learned the importance of thinking about the viewer. Small details, like subtle sounds or lighting changes, can dramatically affect how engaged the audience is. Linking choices to audience reaction is something I want to develop more.
11. Personal Growth
This process has helped me improve technical skills, time management, and critical thinking. It has also made me more confident in planning and reflecting on my own creative work.
12. Future Projects
In the future, I plan to explore new genres, experiment more with camera angles, and incorporate more interactive elements in my blog to enhance audience experience.
13. Conclusion
Overall, this blog has been a valuable learning experience. By documenting my process, reflecting on successes and mistakes, and thinking about my audience, I have developed both my practical and theoretical understanding of media production
